Ceiba, Puerto Rico. My GMC Jimmy and 1971 VW Bug made it through with minor paint damage. The front of the building was on the leeward side of the prevailing winds. A neighbor who lived across the street (Nimitz Drive) took the image.

Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, September 18, 1989.
Hurricane Hugo swept through the Virgin Islands and the eastern half of Puerto Rico. Here’s a view of our on-base house at the height of the storm. The carport roof had blown off, but more importantly, our living room window had blown in, sending debris throughout our house. Shards of glass were embedded in our interior concrete walls! Fortunately, we had evacuated to Florida less than 36 hours before.

Asahiflex IIa – one of the original 35mm SLRs

From Japan, released in 1955. The Asahiflex IIa was one of Japan’s first 35mm SLR cameras.

The Asahiflex IIa with a gorgeous Asahi-Kogaku Takumar f/3.5 50mm lens.

The Asahiflex had interchangeable screw-in lenses.

The waist-level finder open.
With the waist-level viewfinder closed.
The Asahiflex IIa and a Nicca 3-S. The Nicca is from 1956.
This is a Leica IIIg from 1956. It was made in Germany and features a sharp Leica Summaron f/3.5 3.5cm lens.

It’s a great camera to add to any early 35mm camera collection, and there are plenty still available to collect.

A marsh rabbit seeks shelter during a thunderstorm. It’s pretty wet. After the storm passed, she moved on.
