Most older photographs don’t do the subjects justice, but this one does. I believe the camera was a 6×9.

The war in Europe was over and a couple of months the war with Japan would end. It looked like a beautiful summer day in the small backyard of my grandmother’s home.

My Aerographer’s Mate A School class from April 1975. I’m in the second row, third from the left (the tall guy who looks out of place). Naval Air Station Lakehurst, New Jersey

We were fresh out of basic training in the above picture. What is an Aerographer’s Mate (AG)? We are meteorologists and oceanographers, flight weather forecasters, tropical weather experts, severe weather predicters, and all around environmental forecasters (land, sea, air, and sub-surface). The rating just celebrated 100 years of service.

December 1989. Naval Oceanography Command Detachment Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. My detachment of fellow Aerographer’s Mates pose for our annual Christmas Card photo. I’m the last guy in the first row to the extreme right. The detachment was located on Naval Station Roosevelt Roads in the Operations Building which was adjacent to the airfield.

I served on three aircraft carriers during my 22 year Navy career. The USS Midway (CV-41), USS Forrestal (CV-59), and finally the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67). Other duty stations included NAS Pensacola, NAS Jacksonville, and the Naval Submarine Base (NSB) Kings Bay, Georgia. It was a blast!

Our detachment logo in 1990 reflected our support mission to the submarine community (Trident subs).

The Original Canon EF

A 35mm SLR from Canon in the mid 1970s. It’s a close cousin to the more famous Canon F-1.

Leotax Merite – 1958

My Leotax TV2 Merite is frequently misidentified as “Merit.”

It’s shown here with a Nikkor HC f2 5cm lens.

This is a very late 1958 to early 1959 model.

My set includes the original box, case, strap, and instruction booklet.

The Merite is one of the larger Leica-like cameras made in the 1950s, larger than the Leica IIIg and the Nicca 3-S. More pictures to follow.

Chasing Classic Cameras with Chris –

The best addition to my camera collection in 2023. I’m a big-time Canon and Yashica collector, so getting into the Nikon brand has been a fun experience. Lots to learn, which has made it a challenge.
Nikon F2A (F2 Photomic A) with a Nikkor 50mm f2 lens. Pictured with the AS-1Flash Unit Coupler and AR-1 Soft Shutter Release.
The F2 body is from early 1973, and the DP-11 metered viewfinder is from 1978.
