When Carol and I lived in Yokohama, Japan back in the late 1970s we were happily acquiring our first bits of Canon gear. Here Carol gets her Canon AE-1 in pro-black complete with a power winder, ever-ready leather case, and 50mm f1.4 lens. Collecting is a powerful motivator. When I first listed this wonderful collection of boxes for the Canon AE-1 Program I thought it would be a perfect fit for someone looking to round out their Canon collection. I know I try very hard to collect classic cameras with their original boxes as I like the look of a camera with its box. Silly I know but fun!
Whenever I buy large collections locally I’m always looking for orphaned boxes – boxes that their cameras are long ago sold or in some cases, stolen. I picked up this super clean box set and listed it in my online camera shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com with the hope that it would find a new home. It did and what surprised me the most is that it was sold to a collector in France. Postage and VAT were incredible (nearly $75) on top of the sale price I had it listed for. Powerful motivation. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll no doubt know that I like these compact (little) point-and-shoot digital cameras. I find them easy to tote as most will slip nicely into a pant or jacket pocket. Before smartphones were a thing with their high-resolution cameras I’d often carry a pocket digital and shoot with it alongside my primary (big) film SLR. I find shooting with two distinct formats fun and challenging. I also like the fact that with these compacts it’s easy to get both extreme low and high angles that would be difficult with a bulky SLR.
Today’s featured camera is this awesome Canon PowerShot A480 10-megapixel ultracompact with a sharp Canon 3.3x zoom lens. It has 10 shooting modes plus 30fps movie capabilities and one of the best parts it takes just two easy-to-find AA batteries. There is a separate button battery for the date/time feature (CR 2016) but heck that only needs replacing once every ten years or so (which I just did).
With the lens retracted the camera is about the size of a deck of playing cards.In the studio.Super sharp Canon power zoom 37-122mm (35mm equivalent) lens. Up to 6x digital zoom.It’s from Canon so you know the design and function are top-notch.The details.

When looking for a simple and lightweight 35mm single-lens reflex film camera look no further than this hard-working Canon. Released in 1996 and is still a very capable camera to this day. Mine has the Canon Zoom EF 35-80mm f4-5.6 III attached and everything is in top working condition.
One of the advantages of this camera is its ease of use and as the title suggests is light in weight. With two CR123 batteries installed and with the lens attached (lens cap too) it weighs just 546 grams with is super easy to carry around as the primary or secondary camera while on a photo walk.
The camera is capable of full manual shooting as the lens can be taken off autofocus and exposures both aperture and shutter speed set by the user. It also features 10 creative and programmed exposure modes including macro.

The green and tan Canon camera bag is a classic in design and function. Mine is still new in mint unused condition and has been in my Canon collection since new. As I continue to downsize my collections of stuff I’m making it available in my shop just in time for Christmas gift giving. I’ve also listed a few of my Disney collectible camera straps in a variety of styles and colors. All of these straps are also in mint unused condition. The purple and black Walt Disney World camera bag is from the late 1990s and it’s never been used. It’s actually got a tag that states it is a camcorder bag!

I’ll answer that straight away – yes. I believe the design of the Canon EOS 40D and its cousins are in a way timeless. By today’s standards 10.1-megapixels isn’t a lot but when you get down to it it’s enough for sharp images on your computer. Most people never print their images so if you’ve got a sharp monitor you’re good.

The Canon EOS 40D is a fun camera to use even to this day. Simple. compact but built to a higher standard than the Canon EOS Rebel line. It uses any EF or EF-S lens and when paired with a modern EF-S IS lens it’s a joy to use even when shooting focal lengths up through 200-300mm.
I have this wonderful set (yep, mint condition) for sale in my online camera shop. It’s been fully tested, it’s super clean, and has only 5K shutter actuations!

A couple of 10.1 megapixel cameras from Canon. On the left the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and on the right the Canon EOS 40D.
Collecting digital cameras from the mid to late 2000s can be a fun activity as these cameras are being replaced by modern mirrorless digital cameras.I would consider the Rebel as an entry level DSLR and the 40D as a true almost pro-level DSLR. The good news is that these cameras use the common Canon EF lenses.

How’s this for a in your face Minnie Mouse camera strap? It’s actually one of the hardest Disney straps to get here in the US as it was only available for a short time in Japan. It’s brand new (unused) in its original retail package from the Disney Store, Japan.Lots of different Mickey’s!This one I don’t have the original package but it’s still unused and in mint new condition.Rare “plain” classic Canon camera strap. These straps are always in high demand by collectors but few have survived totally unused and still new like this one.Includes the HTF leather strap protectors (body savers).A genuine Canon fanny pack from the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. This one is still new, never used! Holds a large SLR or DSLR and at least two lenses.
