Happy SUNday!

Float my boat. Fernandina Beach Marina.

Big boat, ‘little’ boat.
Built for stability, comfort, and room.
Yachts and a paper mill.

Canon EOS R mirrorless digital camera and a Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 L IS USM zoom lens.

A wonderful combination.

Happy SUNday! – ‘sight’ seeing

At sea level, at 6 feet above the surface, you can see an object at about three miles away. With a 600mm lens, details come into focus.

Uncropped image of a sailboat taken with my 600mm lens. With the naked eye, the boat was a white spot on the horizon.
A slight crop of the original image reveals additional details.
At an extreme crop. My Canon EOS R does well with its 30.3 megapixels.

Surf fishing at 600mm.

A local surf fisherman was captured with my Canon EOS R, Canon EF 300mm f/4 IS USM lens, and Canon EF Extender III.

Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach.

Slightly cropped original JPEG.
Original, no post-processing.
Put it together for 600mm on a budget.

I can’t say enough about this combination. Since the Canon EOS R doesn’t have IBIS, it’s up to the lens and my slightly unsteady hand to keep 600mm images in focus. The lens was made in October 2010. Older EF lenses are a great value, but they are getting on in years. The EOS R is a full-frame 30.3 MP mirrorless camera.

Moon shot.

Friday Fotos! – Photowalk with my 600mm Canon lens.

A few images from a quick photowalk along the Amelia River here in Fernandina Beach this afternoon. What contrasts—industrial ugliness mixed with our natural beauty.

Canon EF 300mm f/4 L IS USM lens with a Canon Extender 2x III. 600mm of reach!

‘Talaria’ Denver, Colorado. That must have been one heck of a trip!
Double-crested cormorant.
Juvenile royal tern (I think).
Tankers for the mills.
Mill one of two along the river. Ugly.
Shrimp boat. Only a few are left.
Crane.

One thing is obvious: Fernandina’s riverfront isn’t dull.

Boats and stacks.

Bridge to Amelia Island

Bridge to Amelia Island

A lot can be seen in this image, such as the Thomas J. Shave, Jr. Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway (Amelia River) and the railroad swing bridge framed in the center.

Looking north over the salt marsh from Crane Island. The marsh is ablaze in the golden hues of the late autumn light.

Full frame, not cropped image at 300mm.
Slightly cropped.
Full crop, still sharp and detailed.

I enjoy using my Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM lens on my Canon EOS R mirrorless digital camera.

It’s pretty nimble and well-balanced, even with the Canon EF-EOS R Mount Adapter attached.
For me, this is a near-perfect set.
300mm is a great focal length if you enjoy telephoto shots like this. The image stabilization is perfect for handheld photography.

I got my Canon big shot! (finally)

Of course, the show’s real star is my Canon EOS R mirrorless digital camera at an impressive 30.3 megapixels. Canon’s white lenses are legendary for their performance under the most challenging situations and conditions.

Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM super telephoto lens with a Canon Extender EF 1.4x II. Combined, it has a focal length of 420mm.
Also included is a Canon Adapter EF-EOS R to mount EF lenses on the EOS R camera bodies.

Colorful photo walk in the historic district.

After the prolonged heat and humidity of our Florida summer, a break in the weather sent me on a photo walk in the downtown historic district of Fernandina Beach, Florida (Amelia Island). I chose my Canon EOS R with my favorite lens, the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM, and the Canon EF-RF adapter. I don’t use post-processing except for an occasional crop, as I like to see my digital images as they would have been if I had been shooting with film.
