standing man

Testing my Nikon One Touch L35 AF3 film camera.

Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 400 color negative film (expired 2019-11). No post-processing. Scanned by the lab.

I’m very pleased with the results of my recent test roll through the Nikon. The One Touch AF3 (987) has a Nikon f2.8 35mm lens that’s been reported to be not quite as sharp as the original Nikon lens used in the first version of the camera, the Nikon L35AF. The autofocus was accurate and I’m pleased with the autoexposure of this image given the late afternoon sun and strong contrast of the scene. I’ll be testing the original L35 soon and I’ll be able to get some comparisons between the two.

Same roll of Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 400 film.

It would have been interesting to have shot with some of the new Kodak films but with the current price of film, I stayed with the Fujicolor. I’m happy with the Nikon’s performance. More pics to follow. If you’re interested to learn more (much more) about this Nikon compact P&S camera check out Mike Eckman’s fantastic post at https://mikeeckman.com/2016/11/nikon-one-touch-af3-1987/

This little camera performed like new! Sharp and fast Nikon f/2.8 35mm lens.

Just in time for Christmas – Canon AE-1 35mm SLR

Just in time for your holiday shopping and gift-giving, I have another beautiful Canon AE-1 from my collection. This one comes with a sharp Canon New FD 50mm f1.8 lens. It’s been fully serviced with new light seals and a new mirror bumper pad and it’s been lubed to ensure that there’s no squeal or squeak from the mirror assembly (commonly known as shutter squeal).

The instruction book is also in mint condition. It’s one of the best booklets I’ve ever had with my Canons. Looks new!
The Canon AE-1 is one of the easiest Canons made.
I also have this one available in my shop.

Canon Booster T Finder

A classic Canon accessory.
Here is a very nice early version of this important accessory from Canon for the original Canon F-1.

Canon Booster T Finder for the Canon F-1
– Mint in Box w/ Leather Case,
Connecting Cord, New Battery, Prism Cover
– Fully Tested – 1 Owner

The Booster T Finder, interchangeable with the
F-1 pentagonal prism section reads precise
exposures with its electronic timer under
extremely dim lighting conditions. It is
effective for photomicrography, macro-
photography, and when shooting indoors
or night scenes where timed exposures
are necessary.

It will complete as pictured. The leather case
is in near-perfect condition as is the finder
itself. The Canon connecting cord 6V 2B is
also in excellent condition and is the correct
cord for the finder. The finder is powered
by an easy-to-find A544 6V alkaline battery
which I’ve included.

This finder was a key part of my Canon F-1 collection
that I’m now downsizing.

The case is in exceptionally nice condition.
Mint condition.
The battery test indicates all is up and running.
The Booster T Finder replaces the eye-level pentaprism finder on the Canon F-1.
Shown here with the standard eye-level finder removed from the original F-1.

If you’re interested in adding this interesting F-1 accessory to your own Canon collection then pop on over to my online shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com where I’m having a nice sale on everything at 10% off for a limited time. Thanks for stopping by, Chris

Canon A-1 1980 Winter Olympics Edition

Complete Canon Olympics Edition A-1 with 1968 Gold Medal winner Jean-Claude Killy pictured on the box (both sides). Killy also appeared in some print advertising for Canon in late 1979 and 1980.

The Winter Olympics were held in February 1980 in Lake Placid, New York so Canon needed someone of note to feature on the box for the A-1 that went into production in early 1979. Since there wasn’t a clear Olympic standout in skiing in the 1976 games, Canon turned to three-time Gold Medalist Killy from the 1968 games in Grenoble, France to feature on the box. A less expensive street camera – Konica Kanpai

Candid street photography can be super satisfying but it can also be stressful if you’re not an outgoing person or you’re in a less than favorable shooting location (busy street, lots of people). I’m basically very shy so approaching strangers is a challenge for me. There’s no one camera that’s best suited for taking candid pics but a few have earned a reputation as good street cams. One that comes to mind is the Yashica T3 (Kyocera T Scope).

The Konica Kanpa! (Kanpai). 35mm “Party Camera” with a voice-activated shutter.
I believe the “scope” on the Konica is a bit bigger.
Konica’s waist-level finder.
Kyocera’s waist-level finder.
Slide the microphone switch upwards to adjust the sensitivity of the built-in mic.
It features a sharp 34mm Konica 3element/3 group glass lens.

Designed to be used in a group setting for automatically tripping the electronic shutter when someone or everyone yells “Kanpai” (Cheers) or whatever you want to yell out – cheese works too. When used in a street setting the camera can conveniently sit in your lap or just hang around your neck and frame your shot with the top-mounted finder. I guess you could just yell “Hi!” at everyone without touching the shutter button and then capture their reaction (I’m not that brave).

As I continue to pass along interesting bits of my camera collection I’ve added this unique camera to my online camera shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com. It might make the perfect Christmas gift for that hard to buy for person on your holiday shopping list. Thanks for stopping by, Chris

Yashica Flex AS-II from Yashima – 1954

Beautiful Yashica Flex AS-II from 1954

Yashima Kogaku, later Yashica (1958) made this wonderful gem in 1954. It’s a great medium-format camera that shoots 120-roll films which are still widely available today and very popular. This camera features an attached exposure meter that was made by Sekonic. Photographed in the downtown Fernandina Beach Historic District post office ca. 1911.

Yashica’s Yashikor f/2.8 5cm Gem

A wonderful LTM lens from 1959 was likely made for Yashica by Tomioka Optical for use on their new Yashica YE 35mm Leica-inspired rangefinder camera. The YE was also known as the 35 YE and the 35 E type during its short run.

Here the lens is shown mounted to my Nicca 3-S.
It’s a handsome lens and it looks well-suited for this mid-1950s Nicca.
A test image from my Fujifilm X-A10 with Fotodiox adapter. I believe this was taken at f/11.
At f/8 or f/11
This one was taken late in the day in deep shade. The Fujifilm X-A10 was set to Velvia film simulation mode. Nice strong colors and sharp contrast.

If you’re interested in discovering more about this under-the-radar lens and Yashica camera might I suggest you stop by my good friend Paul Sokk’s site at http://www.yashicatlr.com/YE&YF.html#yashicaye
