Filmo – Bell & Howell’s Little Gem

Bell & Howell Filmo Double Run Eight Cine Camera (Model 134-B) made in 1936 – 1937. These cameras from B&H (Chicago) were everywhere and they even went to war during World War II and were still on the battlefields during Vietnam as combat cameras.

It’s a funky cool piece of heavy metal!

DSCF8050 logo 1

It’s a rather small movie camera but it tips the scales at nearly 700 grams! This one still works – wind it up and off you go – just like Disney used to use.

DSCF8060

The 12.5mm lens is interchangeable with at least two telephoto lenses!

DSCF8062

Check out how small the lens is!

The removable lens is a Mytal Anastigmat 12 1/2mm f2.5 – f16 lens made by Taylor-Hobson in England.

The viewfinder is a direct vision optical finder with two hinged masks for telephoto lens framing. The camera features a variable speed clockwork motor running at 16, 32, 48, and 64 fps.

Ida and Thomas Whelan

I recently found the time to scan some wonderful photographs of my family. This one of my father’s parents is one of my favorites. This is a direct scan of the print that was made back in the early 1930s. I haven’t touched up the image in any way except to add a touch more brightness. The tones are original. The image was taken in Brooklyn, New York c1932.

Japan and the summer Olympic Games held in Tokyo.

Yashica’s latest in their popular J-series line of SLRs as it would have appeared in a Tokyo camera store window in 1964, possibly in Shibuya or Shinjuku.

The world was coming to Japan for the Olympics and Japan was ready to show the world its best technology and design. The Tokaido Shinkansen made its inaugural run from Tokyo on October 1st and Japan and its technology never looked back.

From chaos sprouts beauty

A rescued Christmas cactus rewards us with its delicate beauty.

Looking neglected at a local big box home store, Carol rescued this cactus –  it rewards us with beautiful blossoms and lovely leaves of deep green. Here captured in the studio with our Fujifilm FinePix S9900W set on chrome color slide film simulation.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Favorite 2017

In response to this week’s challenge, the last one of 2017.

It was extremely hard for us to choose just one favorite for the year. This one wins out just because it wasn’t planned and everything just had to fall into place with minutes to spare.

Island Church, Southern Charm

A very Merry Christmas to all… and a wish for a peaceful 2018. Our “leaders” in America need to take a chill pill and back off on the war talk. As a retired career U.S. Navy Sailor, in my opinion, the best use of our military might is for keeping the peace and protecting the country. NOT playing into the hands of fanatical “leaders” around the globe.

MAINTAIN the peace, CONTAIN your enemies and RESTRAIN our President. It’s easy to drop bombs on people, it takes a real leader to negotiate peace and foster accords.

Peace
