Beach Renourishment on Amelia Island

A never-ending process of replenishing lost sand along our barrier island. The sand is dredged from the St. Marys channel and then pumped on to the beach where heavy duty bulldozers then spread the sand. These operations will go on 24/7 for the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Remembering a “friend”

Yes, a store can be considered as a friend. A place that holds some special memories, a place that’s inviting and a place to hang out.

That last part, hanging out is what probably dooms most stores of this type. Carol and I always make it a point to purchase something whenever we do get a chance to shop there.

20180105_111004

There aren’t many of these stores left and the ones that are are a bit of a drive. This one is located in the southern part of Jacksonville, Florida which is about a 55 mile trip for us.

Fun memories – both of our children won copies of the newly released Harry Potter books while attending a midnight release event. Tim even won an autographed poster (autographed by “Harry Potter” no less!). When a new Barnes & Noble opened in the north part of Jacksonville in the mid-1990s, Lindsay christened the new carpeting in the children’s section with her most recent meal! No other details needed.

We enjoy shopping at B&N vice buying our books from the online giant. Reading a part of the book or magazine before you purchase it is always fun and holding a newly printed book is a joy.

So if you have a local bookstore please go and support it! Not only will you enjoy your time spent there you’ll also be supporting your neighbors by providing employment.

This Barnes & Noble store is located at The St. Johns Town Center which is an upscale super-regional open-air mall in southeast Jacksonville, Florida.

Enjoy!

sky painting 101

Beautiful contrails paint the sky after sunset – 12.17.2017

20171217_173342

Multiple levels of contrails and cirrus. Contrails are condensation trails produced by the exhaust from high flying jets. As the trails “age” they spread out and become less distinct and sometimes can form a cloud layer. Some contrails evaporate quickly if the upper-level atmosphere is exceedingly dry.

A must see on any trip to Amelia Island, Florida. The Historic District is one of America’s best!

The Nassau County Courthouse is still in operation today – many rooms have been put back to their original condition (1891 to 1920s).
