New In the Shop – 10.10.2019

Lots of goodies were added to my camera shop this week as I continue to list items from my personal collection and some recent acquisitions from other collectors.

The Sony tripod is in mint condition and it’s rather cool – it features a built-in remote control right in the handle! The Nikon F book is from 1971 and it’s also in mint condition – these are getting much harder to find this nice after all these years.

The Fujifilm Fuji DL-7 is awesome as it’s still brand new in the box – never used! The Fuji Zoom Cardia is as close to an SLR slayer that you can get in a 35mm compact point and shoot camera. How about the Minolta Six medium format camera from around 1936! It’s the very first one to carry the Minolta name.

Friday Fotos – There’s a snake in the grass!

I believe this early morning visitor in our garden is a common Florida cottonmouth (water moccasin). Very poisonous.

To the left of the cypress tree trunk is the part of our backyard that’s essentially a natural bog and wetlands with heavy tree cover. Ideal for snakes. Most of the snakes on our property are common black racers but we have our share of cottonmouth and rattlesnakes too.

In the Shop – Yashica FR II & more!

New in the shop this week is this excellent Yashica FR II. It’s a wonderfully simple film camera to use as it incorporates aperture-priority autoexposure. You select the f-stop and the camera’s computer sets the shutter speed based on your film’s ISO (ASA) speed.

The Yashica FR II is one of my favorite cameras to use. The viewfinder is big, bright and clear and coupled with the fast Contax/Yashica DSB 50mm lens it’s a joy to shoot with. The focusing screen on this Yashica uses a diagonally split focus spot that makes it super easy to get an accurate focus quickly even in dim lighting (perfect for my gettin’ older eyes!).

This Yashica FR II (FR2) has been fully inspected, serviced and tested. It will come to you with a fresh battery and the original lens cap. Just load a roll of film and you’re good to go!

Happy SUNday! – Unopened Treasure

It’s always a blast to find a camera set that’s still new in its original box. Of course, it also creates a bit of a dilemma – should I use what is still a new camera and “ruin” its newness or should I be happy with keeping it unused and therefore in mint condition?

This, on the other hand, presents a whole different ballgame. Should I remove the outer plastic wrap and play with my new find or leave it as is – still wrapped from the factory and obviously untouched (and unused by me)?

The Fujifilm Zoom Date 135V with its Fujinon 38-135mm zoom lens was first released in the US in April 2004. In Japan, it’s known as the Silvi F135 and was listed at ¥ 29,400. It’s part of the well respected Silvi series of sophisticated compact 35mm film cameras that Fuji Photo was making as late as the mid-2000s.

This set was available at Ritz Camera as late as July 2005 and would have been competing against digital cameras and affordable megapixels.
