Wide-angle on full auto. My driveway looks like heck.

For a compact digital camera that was released in 2010 the exposures are accurate albeit not super-sharp by today’s standards. Technology has come a long way since then where high-end camera phones can be crazy sharp and compact. This is from another era and it shows.

The camera is super compact about the size of a deck of cards which makes it a bit smallish for me to use comfortably. It’s biggest pluses to me is the steady shot capabilities at longer telephoto shots did its job and negated my shaky hands. The Fujinon lens is sharp with 5x optical zoom but not crazy sharp. Good contrast across the shooting range which produces accurate and pleasing exposures.

I like collecting these simple and compact P&S digitals from the past – it helps me appreciate just how far we’ve come in just over a decade. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Contax RTS by Fujifilm X-A10

I haven’t used my Fujifilm X-A10 mirrorless camera in a bit so tonight I thought I would dust it off (only an expression as I keep my gear clean) and try some new settings. The lens is a Super EBC XC 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OIS II model which I believe is considered a kit lens. I did buy the body and lens separate though. It’s about the most inexpensive way to experience the Fujifilm X Series without breaking the bank. You can check it out in greater detail here.

My subject of the day is my recently acquired Contax RTS with it’s sexy new leather half-case from TP Original, color is “volcano”.

PROVIA film simulation mode, shallow depth of field, 5600K studio lighting.

Shallow depth of field (again) focused on the from of the Yashica lens. Black & White film simulation mode, 5600K studio lighting.

I use the Fujifilm mostly for testing vintage lenses by using the appropriate adapters to mount the lens to the mirrorless camera body.

Here’s my Canon FD 28mm f3.5 lens mounted to the Fujifilm X-A10 using an adapter from Fotodiox.

Since I take lots of images for my listings in my camera shop I believe I’ll go back to using this camera and take a break from the camera I normally use. (Fujifilm FinePix S9900W)

Final image. This time I focused on the CONTAX logo and the shallow depth of field throws off the focus on the front of the lens and the RTS. Maybe only the “TAX” is in true focus.

If you’re looking for a simple and potentially inexpensive mirrorless body than I highly recommend this camera from Fujifilm.

Fujifilm and Fernandina Beach

The Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 does a respectable job under bright sunshine and blue skies. Here’s a few images from a walkabout in the Historic District of downtown Fernandina Beach (Amelia Island), Florida.

I think Fujifilm’s Instax color film is an excellent film as it appears to handle high contrast scenes well. With the limitations of the camera’s lens just don’t expect sharp pics even when focused at infinity.

fujica gw690 2 The Fujica GW690 Professional from Fuji Photo Film Company – November 1978. It’s a rather hefty medium format 120/220 roll film camera capable of producing images at an amazingly large 6 x 9 cm.

fujica gw690 Loaded with Fujifilm Neopan 100 Acros.

Its original list price was ¥143,500. The camera features a non-interchangeable EBC Fujinon 90mm f/3.5 lens (5 elements in 5 groups) and a Seiko #0 leaf shutter with settings for T, 1-1/500 second. It weighs “just” 1,430 grams. No batteries needed as there is no built-in exposure meter. Simply focus the easy to use rangefinder, meter via a handheld meter (or phone app), set your aperture and shutter speed and you’re good to go. By the way, this beast produces 8 super sharp images so you can eat through a roll of 120 film in a hurry.
