Classic Canon Chrome

Chasing Classic Cameras with Chris –
An original version (l) Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 chrome nose lens from November 1971. I love these early Canon chrome nose gems as they look so classic mounted on the first Canon F-1.
The FD 50mm f/1.8 is a sharp alternative to the f/1.4 and often at a much better price.
I have this one in my camera shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com
Thanks, Chris

Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 Chrome Nose lens – 1971
None nicer.

When Canon released its first true professional 35mm SLR in the Spring of 1971, this was likely the lens that would have been with it. Of course, the f/1.4 was an excellent choice, especially for photographers who needed that extra speed for low-light situations. This lens’ date code is L1106 which indicates it was made in November 1971 and was the last version (l) lenses made. The chrome nose models were replaced by 1973 giving way to a slightly lighter and less expensive model. It has 6 elements in 4 groups, uses 55mm filters, and weighs a hefty 332 grams.

Happy SUNday!

White-tailed deer (young buck) visiting my backyard NWF wildlife habitat.
Making his way through the ferns.

I hadn’t seen a deer in my yard in the thirty-plus years that I’ve lived here. Part of my yard is wetlands with a small creeklet running through it and at times some small ponds form after heavy summer thunderstorms. This deer has been spotted around the neighborhood over the past two months – he has a severe injury to his right rear leg and for the most part, he can’t use it. Having said that, he looked healthy and responded to my presence. He doesn’t appear to be sick. There are coyotes in the area so I’m hoping he can stay ahead of the various predators and rut as this is the time of year for that in my part of Florida.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day! – Chris

eBay – Out of Control!

I hadn’t looked at my selling fees on eBay in quite a while and with the recent sale of a classic Tomioka lens, I was shocked when I looked into the details of the sale. They charged 13.25% on the total amount collected which included shipping and taxes.

Yashica-Tomioka Auto Yashinon 55mm f/1.2 M42 mount lens.

The lens sold for $689.00. Shipping was $19.00 and sales tax was $70.62. My actual shipping was about $25.00. Instead of charging the 13.25% seller’s fee on just the $689.00, they charged 13.25% on the total of $778.62 which took $103.17 from my potential profit. In my opinion, this is outrageous since I don’t make a profit on shipping and certainly no profit on taxes. This is the last time I’ll sell something like this on eBay and will concentrate my selling on my Etsy site (www.ccstudio2380.com) and on Mercari. Goodbye eBay!

I originally purchased the lens many years ago for $600.00 with $50.00 shipping from Japan. As you can see, eBay’s fees for reselling it resulted in a slight loss. I did get to enjoy the lens for all of those years so at least it hadn’t resulted in a greater loss in value.
