A couple of Minolta 35mm film cameras for your Sunday morning viewing pleasure.

Purchased in the summer of 1975 and still going strong.

Purchased in the autumn of 2000. It’s hard to believe it’s been 23 years!

A gem from Canon – 1972

The Canon F-1 was released in 1971 and represented Canon’s first professional level 35mm single-lens reflex camera. This beautiful set is from 1972 and features a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 lens.

Complete kit including the correct first edition instruction booklet.

Chrome nose Canon lenses are my favorite.

Early models do not have the film reminder slot on the rear of the film door. Early serial numbers in the 1xxxxx range are your assurances that it’s an early model.

Chasing an early model Canon F-1 has become a bit harder as these cameras are now over 50 years old. Finding one with an original chrome-nosed Canon lens is even harder but certainly worth the effort. Thanks for stopping by! – Chris

A stunning camera from Yashica – the early 1960s.

Yashica’s black beauty.

Yashica J-3 35mm SLR in wonderful black & white.

Here it is in a more traditional silver and black body. The brochure is from 1962.

This black body version of the J-3 is extremely difficult to find online. Yashica didn’t release production figures and I’ve never been able to find a mention of it in any English or Japanese product brochures.

I like both images and it would be hard to say which version is my favorite. The black & white image seems a fitting way to express the stark black of Yashica’s first pro-black camera. The color version I believe gives depth to the smooth black surfaces. Do you have a favorite? Let me know. Thanks for stopping by! – Chris

The finishing touch. A custom real leather half-case from TP Original. I purchased mine through Martin Duke Shop on Etsy. The quality of the materials and craftmanship is outstanding. The color is volcano.

Nice sized leather case adds a good layer of protection.

From TP Original, custom made leather half-case. It comes with two tripod mount retainer screws too.

I like shooting with a half-case installed on the camera. It gives me just the right amount of additional grip and provides a nice protective layer to prevent damage. The bottom is perfectly flat and the little bump out helps to balance the body better with a normal or wide angle lens attached.

Yashica Pentamatic Presentation Box – 1960

These are not often seen (or collected) as most boxes of this type would have been tossed after purchasing the camera. I know we were guilty of that back in the 1970s when we tossed our Canon F-1 and AE-1 boxes (insert crying sounds).

Here’s a very nice Pentamatic camera presentation box for Yashica’s very first 35mm SLR camera from 1960. A rather distinctive style from Yashica – it certainly plays up the pentaprism aspect of the camera.
