Fernandina Public School No. 1

Public School No. 1 building, Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Florida. This grand building is home to the county office for the Nassau County School Board.

The image above was taken with my Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera and Canon EF 16-35mm zoom lens late in the afternoon. In the image below taken about mid-day, I used my ca.1964 Yashica Mat EM twin-lens reflex film camera which shoots a 6x6cm square image on 120 roll film.

I enjoy photographing the many historic buildings in and around the Fernandina Beach Historic District using different cameras and formats. Thanks for stopping by! – Chris

The garden takes on a different look in the middle of Winter and is photographed just after the coldest morning in nearly a decade.

Unseasonably cold for Florida

This morning at around 5 AM the temperature here on Amelia Island was 27 degrees which is the coldest we’ve been in almost a decade. I know it’s all relative to location and most people wouldn’t consider the mid-20s cold but it was cold!

Thanks for stopping by. How cold was it where you live this morning after the big East Coast (US) storm? – Chris

Dreaming of my Fuji…

The Fujica GW690 (large) medium-format film camera by Fuji. It’s the largest 120/220 roll film camera in my collection and let me tell you, it’s a beast! It boasts an EBC Fujinon f3.5 90mm fixed lens that goes far and above any other film camera I’ve ever used. Check out this unedited image below – the detail that can be captured on a 6x9cm frame of film is amazing.

Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 film.
I love the look of Neopan Acros 100 film and its ability to capture the finest details.
I love the statement – “Light Weight and Compact”. I’m not quite sure that 6x9cm is considered to be a large format camera but who am I to argue with the gang at Fuji Photo Film marketing.

If you’ve never heard about this camera I highly recommend you take a stroll through the various online selling sites and check out this wonderful camera. There are “millions” of them out there so it’s not a difficult camera to chase down. I don’t ever see myself selling this camera as I originally purchased it from Japan at a great price and I love using it (although it’s been a long time). Be sure to check out my previous posts about this camera in the links below. Thanks for stopping by and I hope I’ve encouraged you to take a peek at these online. – Chris

Pirates?

Fernandina Beach (Florida) water tower with Pirates logo.

The public schools on Amelia Island (Fernandina Beach) share the common mascot of the Pirates except in the elementary schools they’re the Li’l Pirates.

enjoy the beach… if you can

Fernandina Beach has allowed driving on the beach for decades but with restrictions. Many locals who are familiar with the rules know what they can and can’t do while driving on the beach. Because we’re a beach town and because we get our fair share of tourists, the city has gone above and beyond with signage and barriers.

Save the Clock Tower!

No, not that one. The tower in our little ‘city’ is doing just fine. Erected in 1891 it’s part of the Old Nassau County Courthouse. Here’s just the uppermost part of this beautiful tower (with Christmas lights still attached).
