F4U Corsair Model at the Fernandina Beach Airport Terminal

I finally got the chance to check out the Corsair reproduction that hangs in the airport terminal building here on Amelia Island. The terminal was completed late in 2018 and represents a significant upgrade to the facilities that it replaced. Well done to all involved!

The Corsair was flown by the US Navy and Marines in the Pacific theater of operations during the latter stages of WWII and enjoyed a reputation that was second to none.

The Corsair was powered by a super powerful Pratt & Whitney engine.

The terminal building is designed to evoke a WWII F4U Corsair fighter-bomber.

Thanks for stopping by and if you find yourself anywhere near northeast Florida make time to stop and visit our unique airport terminal.

The View from our Garden Window

A look through our garden window on this wet and cool North Florida day. Traditional autumn colors mixed with the pink of an Encore azalea and the wonderful colors of a poinsettia – oh, and our strange little “cactus” from somewhere in the galaxy (last pic).

Our tribute garden just outside of our dining room window. The cypress fence becomes alive with lichen and moss through the years – lots of sun and tropical rains provide the perfect environment. Papa Sol has been looking over the garden for nearly 20 years now – keeping it safe and providing a home for lizards.

The Home Depot “cactus from outer space” that keeps changing into new and bizarre shapes almost daily. I don’t think it was meant to live this long.

Pictures at an Exhibition – Nassau County Courthouse

20181018_153237

It’s one of my most photographed spots in our historic district – the Nassau County Courthouse. I’ve been honored to have my award-winning photograph hang “forever” inside the courthouse along with about fifty others as part of an exhibition of images and paintings of our beloved landmark. Each image was personally selected by the Honorable Judge Robert M. Foster, Chief Judge of the Fourth Circuit Court here in Nassau County (Florida).

It’s been fun documenting the construction of this building starting back in early January of this year (2018). I think that all involved did an outstanding job.
