FRIday Fun – Random Pics

There are so many details, both large and small that add a richness to living in a small town. A short walkabout is a photographer’s dream as all of these images were captured within a few blocks of one another.

Fernandina Beach can be found in the extreme northeast corner of Florida – it’s located on the first barrier island (Amelia Island) along Florida’s east coast just across the border from St. Marys, Georgia.

It’s certainly worth a visit – there’s nowhere else in Florida like it and we’ve got 13 miles of beautiful unspoiled sandy beaches too!

Fort Clinch State Park – Florida

Fort Clinch State Park is a beautiful 1,400 acre park on the extreme northeastern tip of Amelia Island. The fort makes up only one small part of this diverse and ecologically important park – here the old Florida can be appreciated for its tall sand dunes covered with a coastal maritime forest. Beautiful gopher tortoises roam the dunes at will. Here this one was at the base of one of the fort’s brick walls.

Osprey keeping a watchful eye on me and the ocean.

At the end of the fishing pier. A jetty continues out farther into the ocean. It’s a great place to do some wave watching and capturing some great cloud formations.

It’s well worth your time to visit the park – between the ocean access and the St. Marys river access is a wonderful coastal forest and of course, the fort.

Thanks for your visit!

Winter departs… Spring will pass quickly… Summer stays & sizzles

We enjoy our all too short Winter… the sky is bright blue and often cloudless. The humidity is bearable for once. Spring – one of the nicest seasons – departs quickly as the Summer sun returns north of the equator. The unrelenting heat drives us to seek water and shade. Boats and beaches – sea breezes and cool drinks – air conditioning and thoughts of the mountains. But Summer is our favorite season – it has to be – it seems to never give up or go away.

It’s also a favorite time to enjoy photography. The colors are amazing and if you’re lucky, the day will end with a cooling thunderstorm – light show included!

Bring on the Summer!
