forgotten garden bench

Actually not forgotten just covered up by maidenhair ferns. I built this bench about 25 years ago when the gardens were still ‘new’.

A quiet spot to reflect and rest.

It’s made from treated 4 x 6 lumber.
This is what’s on the other side of the black metal fence. A natural bog and at times small creeklet.

Buy Me A Coffee

a decade ago – random image surfing

Occasionally I like to surf my image files and revisit what was a pretty standard (boring) picture and see if I can make it into something well, interesting. Let me be totally upfront – I am one of those rare (odd) photographers that doesn’t have sophisticated post production software. No Photoshop, no (I don’t even know what else is out there). I do use the program? that came with my pc and I’m no even sure what it is.

April 2011 – NY Mets against the hated Nats – LGM! Modified tonight (May 2021).
The original picture unretouched. I used this picture to prove to Sony that their TV failed – I got a new TV from Sony because the color block on this one went crazy and turned everything too green.
My backyard firepit 10 years ago.
Real rocks and a real fire perfect for some quality time with the family.

Happy SUNday!

With our planet seemingly under siege from uncontrolled climate changes and the pandemic (not to mention political nonsense) here’s a simple way to take back a small chunk of sanity.

By providing a place within your property for wildlife and native plants and trees to flourish not only do you do something nice for the Earth but also for your mental health and personal well-being.

Visit https://www.nwf.org/garden-for-wildlife/certify to find out how you can help wildlife to thrive instead of just surviving.

Have a beautiful and peaceful day! – Chris

In the Garden – Good morning reptiles!

I went out to check the bird feeder early this morning and was rewarded by a visit from a couple of my garden residents.

This river cooter is a regular because I’m lucky to have a nice natural bog and pond in the woods behind my house and although it’s a turtle “Disneyland” back there they do enjoy getting out and about and catching some sun. This gal is about football sized as a point of reference.

One of the hundreds, yes hundreds of lizards in my yard. This one normally hangs out on the fence but almost always catches the first rays of sun on these rocks.

The dogwood is finally getting its leaves – it’s always a late “bloomer” but this year it was particularly slow. This one was started from a tiny tiny seedling sent to me by the Arbor Day Foundation – it’s taken about 8 years just to get to be about 5 feet tall and has yet to bloom.

The View from our Garden Window

A look through our garden window on this wet and cool North Florida day. Traditional autumn colors mixed with the pink of an Encore azalea and the wonderful colors of a poinsettia – oh, and our strange little “cactus” from somewhere in the galaxy (last pic).

Our tribute garden just outside of our dining room window. The cypress fence becomes alive with lichen and moss through the years – lots of sun and tropical rains provide the perfect environment. Papa Sol has been looking over the garden for nearly 20 years now – keeping it safe and providing a home for lizards.

The Home Depot “cactus from outer space” that keeps changing into new and bizarre shapes almost daily. I don’t think it was meant to live this long.
