The snip above is from a recently completed auction for a rather rare, no check that, super rare sales brochure for the famous 35mm SLR made by Zunow in the late 1950s. The final sales price for the brochure was an amazing $180 USD!
Pictured above (not my image or camera) is the first and only SLR made by Zunow. It’s rare to find one for sale as well less than 1,000 were ever made (maybe only 500). It’s a beautiful design but it was plagued with numerous build quality issues. I believe the most recent sale of a complete Zunow SLR went for around $15,000 USD.

I’m still getting to know my Nikon D800 and while “testing” the HDR function I discovered that if you move the camera even slightly then you end up with this (actually pretty cool).
Obviously I was trying to get a good image of this oak but with HDR on it caused the combined image to be blurry. Below is the very next image with HDR still on.
Both images were taken with my Nikon D800 and AF Nikkor 24mm f2.8 D lens. I’ll need to learn to use the D800 more fully. Now that the weather has changed and the heat and humidity of summer is gone there will be more opportunities to go out and get some images under my belt.

What a lovely surprise to be contacted by a gentleman who currently lives in the same neighborhood that Carol and I lived in back in the late 1970s. His name is Miguel and he was kind enough to share a current picture of the area.
The first image below was taken by me in the summer of 1978 from a hill overlooking the US Navy housing area looking east towards Tokyo Bay in the distance. The early photograph was taken on Kodak Kodachrome and hasn’t aged well as it’s lost most of its original color. Back in the 1970s, this part of Yokohama was very industrialized and on a hot hazy summer day the visibility was often restricted to less than three miles or so.
This current picture below shows the vast changes that have occured since the Navy left the area. In the mid-1980s the original houses were torn down to make way for a wonderful upscale neighborhood and elementary school. If the smokestack (far right side) is the same one then these two pictures were taken in about the same place. How wonderful is that!?
My understanding is that the Honmoku Elementary School seen in the above image (lower left) is on the site where our government house stood.

This wood deck in my backyard is 17-years-old – I built it back in 2003 as an enjoyable spot to connect our house with the wooded back areas of my yard. I love trees and I love the shade they provide during the hot summer months here in North Florida. The downside of having a wood deck in a forest is that it tends to get dirty quickly – really quickly. Algae, mold, dirt, leaves, and grime combine to turn the wood black.
I started cleaning the deck with my pressure washer (electric 2100 psi) last weekend and I’ve still got a long way to go but I thought I’d share a before and after picture of just how nice it’s coming along. No chemicals, just water pressure (and time).
Pressure washing can be a relaxing and enjoyable experience. I tend not to think about anything while I’m doing it. So its kinda peaceful during these frightening times.
Speaking of peaceful. I want to wish all of my friends and followers here on WordPress a wonderful Thanksgiving day and that you’re able and sit back and enjoy spending some time in person and virtually with the people you love.

The Nikon U2 was the Japanese market version of the Nikon N75 in North America and F75 elsewhere. It was one of the last intermediate range consumer 35mm SLRs from Nikon. Released in 2003.
