Hyper-rare Yashica Pentamatic II – was only released in Japan for a very short time.

Yashica Model A still in its factory plastic.

Rare Yashica TL Electro X without the gothic ‘Y’ on the pentaprism (early first version).

As you may be able to tell, Yashica produced a wide range of cameras and there’s plenty of rare varieties worth chasing. I only discovered the TL Electro X without the gothic ‘Y’ about two years ago after convincing myself there was nothing new to collect from the Yashica line.

Revisiting a classic – Yashica Flex model S

Yashica Flex Model S. Maybe from 1955 or early 1956. First Yashica TLR with built-in exposure meter. Made by Yashima Kogaku Seiki Co., Ltd. Tokyo, Japan, which later became Yashica. The leather case is in excellent condition given its age. The camera is a gem and is a joy to play with.

A close cousin, the Yashicaflex AS-II (below).

This lovely camera dates from around 1954.

SUNday Spotlight – have you checked your batteries lately?

Hi all – I’m back on my battery warpath again. As good as I think I am about removing batteries from my photo gear and whatnot, I get burned again. Thankfully this little disaster wasn’t found in a camera but in one of my now-grown daughter’s toys. I think these have been in for about 25 years so I guess they could have looked worse. The corrosion has ruined the circuits so it’s now toast. Poor Barbie, she should have told us to change the batteries in her store’s display counter.

Don’t let this happen to one of your cameras!

Auto Yashinon 55mm f1.2 by Tomioka Optical – 1973

Monster glass from Tomioka. The lens has a super low serial number that puts it within the first few months of production. The camera is the Yashica TL Electro X – ITS made in April 1973.

I needed to take some test shots with my new to me Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi so I did a little walkabout in my front yard. Nothing more than snapshots but my goal was to test the autofocus and various modes on the camera. The Rebel XTi is a 10.1-megapixel from around 2008. I purchased it from the original owner who lives locally and knows I collect cameras.
