This is the last Canon EF 35mm film camera in my collection. I’ve owned quite a few over the years, but I kept this one because it’s in mint condition and works perfectly. This EF was made in early 1976. It’s affectionally know as the Black Beauty.
It’s a very close cousin to the Canon F-1. The original F-1 was released in March 1971. The EF made its appearance in November 1973.It’s one of the most underrated cameras of the 1970s, and in some ways was better than the F-1 straight out of the box.
If you’re looking to add a classic film camera from the seventies, the Canon EF is worth the chase!

In many ways, it’s better than the much more famous F-1.
It’s also known as the Canon Black Beauty. It’s built on the F-1’s frame but does not have interchangeable viewfinders or the ability to use a power winder or motor drive.
The EF was first released in 1973, just two years after the F-1. It was Canon’s first aperture-priority camera, well before the AE-1.The standard lens is the Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. shown here with its lens hood.Here, a Canon EF and its cousin, the Canon F-1. The Canon EF is a worthy camera for your collection. The ability to electronically time exposures from 1/2 to 30 seconds accurately makes it more versatile than the F-1 in its base form.

The Canon EF is a close cousin to the F-1. The EF was released in 1973, and the original F-1 in 1971. This OD F-1 (olive drab) is the only Canon F-1 in a color other than black.

Canon EF 35mm SLR film camera from 1977. This one includes a super nice (and fast) Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. lens.
This is one of our all-time favorite Canon cameras to use – the Canon EF 35mm SLR film camera. Also known as the ‘Black Beauty’ for its generous expanses of semi-gloss black paint. It’s a close cousin to the famous Canon F-1 (the original from 1971) with the exception of no removable prisms.
