Canon Data Back F for the Canon F-1

One of those must-have items from my younger days. When I purchased my first Canon F-1 in July 1978 there were many additional bits of gear that I wanted to add to it. My first purchase was the Canon FD 24mm f2.8 S.S.C. wide-angle lens followed by the Canon FD 80-200mm f4 S.S.C. telephoto zoom lens. Carol got her Canon AE-1 by December so after that we were pretty well set. But I kept wanting a few more bits – the Canon Data Back F was one of them.

Fast forward thirty years and a few months and I finally got my wish.

DSCF6756

Complete set from 1980.

It’s been on display with my other Canon bits in my camera collection – unused but at least I have it!

DSCF6763

In pristine factory fresh condition and fully functional too.

It’s time to downsize my collections so this still new in the box Canon accessory is now available for purchase in my camera shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com

DSCF6764

A fresh battery installed and fully tested.

It’s designed to replace the film door back on the original Canon F-1.

DSCF6767

The little window houses the LED that imprints the film.

DSCF6765

All sorts of combinations of dates, data, digits, and letters can be imprinted.

DSCF6758

A sturdy plastic case is a perfect home for the back when not in use or on display.

DSCF6762

The original instruction booklet from 1979. Pictured is the Data Back for the A Series of cameras.

So there you have it. If you’ve been looking to add this wonderful Canon collectible to your Canon collection now’s the time to do so. It’s as clean and new as it looks (the pics are from just the other day) and it’s ready to use (or display). Check it out in my shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com

Thanks! – Chris

Tamiya Martini Racing 935 Porsche – 1977

21032603116_2d252a81b8_o

High-quality 1:12 scale Tamiya model. Photographed with a Canon F-1 with Canon FD 24mm f/2.8 lens on Kodak Kodachrome. Assembled and photographed at my home in Honmoku, Yokohama in 1979.

Tamiya models were always the best! The only thing I left off was the red air dam stripe and I swapped the Martini decal for a Porsche decal above the grill.

These kits unassembled and still new in the box go for around $350 to $450 USD.

At the Zoo – Lion Country Safari, Florida

Lion Country Safari is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. It’s one of the better “drive-thru” safari parks in the US. Here are a few images from a trip back in October 1993.

These next two images were taken at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens (Florida) in 1999 OR at Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay OR at Lion Country Safari – I’m sorry to say that I didn’t record their origin properly.

Grévy’s zebra

The markings on these zebra are amazing – if you look closely it’s actually difficult to distinguish where one animal begins and another ends when they are in a herd.

Here’s a great link to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens with some interesting info about these zebras.

Beautiful Sankei-en (Gardens)

We were very fortunate to live just a short bicycle ride from Sankei-en and although I was seldom home during the Spring we would always find time to spend the day there.

Yashica FR II – the camera that made me buy the Canon F-1

Time for another look at this underappreciated Yashica.

Yashica Pentamatic Fanatic

I know – the FR II and the F-1 are miles apart in features (and price). I purchased my first Yashica, a TL Electro-X in 1971 and used it faithfully through much of the 1970s. Being a young (and married) US Navy Sailor and money deprived, the TL suited me just fine – until I was transferred to Japan in 1977. If you were ever stationed in Yokosuka then you know what Building A33 means. It was the Navy Exchange camera and stereo heaven!!! Reps from all of the major camera manufacturers were present and demonstrated their latest gear to the now cash flush Sailors. Upstairs was a branch of Navy Federal Credit Union… if you couldn’t afford it, finance it! Pure bliss.

I’m so easily distracted.

So it was time for me to upgrade my trusty TL Electro-X, so naturally I looked at what Yashica had to offer. The…
