Neat little Nikon, in plum!

Nikon Coolpix S3000 – a super sharp compact with a bunch of cool features.

We love collecting these often overlooked digitals from the 2010s and beyond. Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Fujifilm were locked head to head with trying to pack as many features and megapixels into the smallest body they could. Fujinon, Nikkor, Carl Zeiss, and Canon optics combined with powerful zooms make these a blast to use and with great results too.

Here’s a few samples from this Nikon.

We’ve collected lots of these little gems and enjoy taking them out for a spin from time to time.

I recently acquired a few cameras and lenses from a good friend who lives on Long Island. Some of her gear has been sitting around unused for a while so I like to test and inspect (and clean) them. The results with the Nikon Nikkor AI 50mm f1.4 lens are very pleasant. Now to test the Nikon FM10 and Nikon N75 that she also sent. It’s always great fun to “play” with new to me gear.

A couple of nice Nikons – SUNday Spotlight

Hello all! I’ve added a couple of very nice Nikons in my shop recently – both film and digital.

The Nikon N60 comes complete with a super sharp AF Nikkor 28-80mm f3.5-5.6D lens.
The Nikon N60 can be operated in full manual mode which is perfect for newcomers to film photography.

This Nikon D80 (pictured below) was recently purchased by me from the original local owner. They’ve kept in in excellent condition and I’ve fully tested it. The D80 was released in 2006 and features a 10.2 MP CCD imaging sensor in the DX format. It’s a true DSLR and uses all Nikon F-mount lenses.

The camera only has 8,475 shutter actuations which is considered to be about 18% of the cameras capability.

If you’re a fan of Nikon and Nikkor lenses then these cameras are for you. I’ve been very impressed with the ruggedness of the N60 as it was built with a metal frame. The lens mount is a metal Nikon F-mount (not plastic).

The D80 is a joy to use as it doesn’t feel like a rock hanging around your neck. The color LCD screen is super bright and clear as is the optical viewfinder which features a diopter adjustment and padded eyepiece.

Chasing Classic Cameras 2020

2020 was a pretty dynamic year as far as our camera collection was concerned. Lots of outgoing cameras and lenses and a few (well more than a few) additions. Here’s my top 6 new members of the hoard.

An eclectic mix of cameras presented in no particular order.

Canon EOS-1N RS. The Superman of Canon’s 35mm SLR film cameras. This one is from about 1998. The high-speed motor drive is built-in and at its fastest its capable of shooting 10 fps! Here it has a gorgeous Canon EF AF 50mm f1.4 USM lens mounted.
Zeiss Ikon Contax IIIa from 1951 is a 35mm interchangeable lens rangefinder film camera. A fully operational Contax IIIa from early 1951. Here it’s pictured with the exposure meter flap in the closed position. The Carl Zeiss Sonnar f/1.5 50mm lens is in excellent condition as is the camera. Even the exposure meter is working!
The last in the long line of Leica L39 (LSM) interchangeable lens rangefinder cameras. This is the famous Leica IIIg with the Leicavit winder attached. The lens is a wonderful and sharp Ernst Leitz Summaron f3.5 35mm wide-angle lens.
I didn’t need to add this full-frame monster to my collection but when the opportunity came along to own it I couldn’t pass. At 36 MP it will laser etch your eyes with it’s resolution. Here it’s got a sharp AF Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens. The only downside to this camera is no built-in image stabilization so you need a tripod (at least I do) for any shot with a lens over 135mm.
My favorite Yashica hands down. This classic 35mm SLR film camera is in mint condition and came with its original box. From May 1970.
Yashica-Nicca YF – August 1959. Mated with a sharp Yashinon f1.8 5cm lens. This Yashica is a 35mm interchangeable lens film camera that uses L39 (LSM) lenses.

Believe it or not but there’s a few more not listed here. I’ll blog about those soon. There were many more outgoing cameras in our collection in 2020 which is always a good thing. You can’t keep them all.
