NWF – Certified Wildlife Habitats

IMG_20180404_0001

We encourage you to get your property certified – it’s easy and fun to do. It makes a great family project that pays dividends over and over.

Our backyard NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat

It can be any part of your yard – a small front yard garden or your entire property!

Since moving here in 1991, Carol and I (and the entire family) have planted over 50 native trees on our small suburban property. Since most of our backyard is a natural bog with a small pond we’ve planted mostly water-loving trees – bald cypress, river birch, river maples, pines, Leyland cypress, oaks, dogwoods, redbuds, and a bunch of native azaleas.

It’s important to leave fallen branches in a pile in the yard as it makes great cover for all sorts of critters. Our bog and pond support mosquito fish, river cooter (turtles), snakes of all types and even leeches!

I’m sure a river otter or two have appeared from time to time. We have some stray deer (a bit hard for them to stay since it’s so wet back there), Florida black bears, raccoons, opossums, armadillos, eagles, hawks, and all manner of other birds – mostly cardinals. An occasional vulture is spotted whenever something needs to be disposed of.

The key to our backyard is – no chemicals! No fertilizers, and no watering. It must take care of itself. We do occasionally weed non-native species and invading vines and we do use mulch.

My “Dad”

My father-in-law Frank at work (Pratt & Whitney Aircraft) in 1993. He worked for “Pratt” for 40 years and was a top-flight welder of jet engines. Frank’s still going strong at 85! Here’s to you dad!

Frank was a foremost J58 engine welder for nearly his entire career at P&W

This logo (above) is known as the “Florida” eagle which is installed on the J58 turbojet engines used in the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft and on the RL10 liquid hydrogen/liquid oxygen engine used in the Centaur rocket.

“Marco Rubio’s” – Brilliant! Many thanks to Ms. Sarah Chadwick!

This young lady has a great future! Brilliant!

Way to go, Sarah! Keep up the push for meaningful changes that will save lives – NOW!

rubio

Vote him OUT!

How much money is needed Mr. Rubio to get you to represent OUR interests instead of the NRA? Should we hold a bake sale for you??? The slaughter at the Pulse nightclub didn’t phase you a bit – standing on stage with the families of the kids who were murdered didn’t move you at all. You are one COLD HEARTED $.O.B.!

rubio 2

“They are so easy to buy”! Shame on you Mr. Rubio – putting YOUR bank account ahead of the lives of children!

It’s just unbelievable to us why they protect the NRA ($$$$$$$$$$$$$) like this over the safety of the rest of us – wait, we have a right to exist free from the fear of execution by guns! Our right to exist “trumps” your desire to own an AR-15 style weapon… period!

Peace and Love

Whatever happened to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial?

In the 1982 movie, we see E.T. board his spaceship and presumedly return to his planet. But, since E.T. was said to be hundreds of years old you can’t expect a galactic traveler like him to stay put.

Here’s evidence that he returned to Earth and opened up a chain of supermarkets!

We Want Our Flag to Fly High Evermore – Stop this Assault on America – We Have a Right to Exist!

DSC04336

1791 – That’s when the Second Amendment was ratified. Without going into the details of the wording of a document written over 225 years ago, no sane person today should ever use the word “arms” to mean the “war weapons” that Americans can purchase and use today – high velocity, high rate of fire, killing machines (there were no wounded in Sandy Hook Elementary School – only dead children and teachers) and an almost unlimited supply of bullets and magazines that can be changed out in a matter of seconds. Totally insane! We are being held hostage by the words of ghosts! I don’t want to hear your argument about it – the writers of the Bill of Rights could NEVER foresee what “arms” would become just as we can’t see what the future of weapons will be in let’s say 1, 5, or 10 years from now. They would be appalled and shocked to the core that this Amendment hasn’t been updated to reflect the changing technology of modern weapons.

Every day in this country Americans die from a bullet – self-inflicted deaths, drive-bys, domestic violence, accidental shootings and now almost monthly (weekly?) mass shootings in schools, churches, concerts, and streets. STOP. Get the ineffective and corrupt politicians out of office who take money from gun lobbyists and prefer to protect their bank accounts more than our children!

Students should boycott schools until Congress changes the laws. Walk out of school – you wouldn’t work in an unsafe environment and our children shouldn’t either! Could you imagine the power of MILLIONS of students on a general strike until their demands are met! That’s the power of a citizen.

We will join the student protests across America and support law enforcement, school administrators, students, teachers, parents, and citizens who want America to stop these daily tragedies NOW – once and forever!

An immediate moratorium is needed on the sale of these weapons – now – no more “it’s a mental health issue”, it is “our right to exist issue” – free from the terror of the waiting for the next one to happen.

Peace and all the love in our hearts for our fellow Americans.
