Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash Outfit – 1956

From Kodak around 1956, this is a Brownie Holiday Flash 127 roll film camera set. Still with its original box and still fully functional. The set comes with flashbulbs, the detachable flash unit, strap, and the Midget Flashguard (vinyl shield) for the flash.

Made in the USA from rugged Bakelite and designed to last a lifetime.

The flash takes (2) AA batteries and standard flashbulbs.

The camera uses 127 roll film which is still being manufactured and of course, is still processed via online labs (and via home processing). 120 roll film can also be used if you modify the film roll to fit. 127 format produces 4 x 6.4 cm negatives (1 5/8 x 2 1/4 inch).

The original box. I acquired this set from the original owner and his name “Bobby” is printed on the top center of the box (in red). He’s had it new since Christmas 1956.

I’ve tested everything but the flash (I didn’t want to waste a bulb) and the winder, the shutter operate properly. The direct-view viewfinder is clear and bright – I do see some dust and a few fingers of fungus on the lens but I believe it’s still capable of delivering nice vintage images.

If you haven’t used a brownie before they’re a blast to use and the 127 format produces a nice image that’s easy to scan.

It’s available in my online camera shop at http://www.ccstudio2380.com which is hosted by Etsy. I can ship it virtually worldwide and accept a variety of payments.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to visit my shop as I’ve added many new items from my collection and have some exciting new finds to list shortly. – Chris

Yashicaflex model A-II (1955)

A gem of a camera in our collection this one was made by Yashima Kogaku Seiki Company (Yashica) in 1955. It is in “factory fresh” condition inside and out.

Yashicaflex A-II made by Yashima

A bit of a confusing title so let me explain. Yashica started off as Yashima and although they called their first twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera the Yashimaflex they quickly changed to Yashicaflex with their subsequent models. Yashima became Yashica in 1958 when the company name matched the camera’s name.

Here’s a rather rare presentation box for the A-II. This box was for the export version of the camera – the domestic market box was slightly different.

This box is original to the camera and it’s from 1955.

I’ll have more about this interesting early camera from Yashima soon. Thanks for stopping by! – Chris

Scams on eBay – beware of the too good to be true offer!

It’s always good advice to beware of the so-called “too good to be true” offers no matter where you encounter them, especially on eBay. I’ve alerted eBay about these messages but to no avail. They said that they would look into them but since I still receive them it’s unlikely eBay did much about it.

As you’ll see in these four messages from what looks like legitimate accounts an obvious trend. I’ll add that these messages are for the same item I have listed on eBay and the messages cover about a two month period. The item lists for around $1,800.

I believe that the scammer(s) hijack legitimate accounts that haven’t been active in a while so as to appear to be legit offers. I’ve never responded to any of these and I’ll never do so. Please, never engage a scammer as they are capable of almost anything and may be able to glean something of importance from any conversation that you may exchange with them.

I once had an offer to mail a full-size piano to Nigeria!

New construction – twosday 2 fer

Another new development is going on here on Amelia Island just down the street from the beach. So far the builders have left the native trees alone (for the most part) and the type of construction with the raised foundations should allow the roots to breathe.

A warm winter – so far

Here in extreme Northeast Florida (Amelia Island) our winter has been very mild which is following a winter from last year that saw no sub-freezing temperatures or frost. Here it is the second week of January and the trees and plants are showing early spring growth.

20200113_133531

First up are the poor river maples in my front yard. They still have some green leaves from this past summer and leaves that have changed color with the onset of autumn – and now there are blossoms for the next round of leaves. I’ve never seen blossoms this early and certainly, I’ve never seen this many of last season’s leaves still hanging on. I would think that climatologically we’re still capable of having a hard (and damaging) freeze here before February is over.

Here are our azaleas starting to blossom – about one month too early and indicative of the mild winter we’re experiencing.

DSCF7533

The river maples with plenty of last seasons leaves and the new blossoms starting to pop. A large oak is visible in the background. Typically the oak will shed its leaves during April and May.

At this point in time with so many spring buds and blossoms appearing our hope is to avoid a hard freeze before spring. We hit 76 degrees here along the coast with the mid-80s reported inland.
