Getting closer.

The upper kitchen cabinets have been removed from over the bar, now it’s time to get rid of the soffit structure.

I’m standing on the bar countertop tackling the last part of the structure that extends up through the ceiling into the inaccessible attic. It turns out it was nailed into the existing roof trusses and didn’t go without a fight. By the way, I’m the one who built the bar so I know it was capable of holding a rather large me.

Almost gone! See the next picture to check out the new hole.

At the moment I’m leaving it open to be able to run new wiring.

Another ugly wall that will get repaired. I’m leaving it open at the moment because I need to run wiring for ceiling-mounted recessed LED lights. The white pipe is the drain vent that extends up through the roof. The unpainted beadboard was covered by the upper cabinets.

We started our kitchen reno in March 2021. Our home was built and we purchased it new in 1991 so it seemed like a good time to update the look of the kitchen and upgrade the appliances. Tomorrow I get my cabinet doors and drawers back from the paint shop. I’ll be sure to post a few pics after they get installed. Thanks for stopping by! – Chris

strange cactus in my window

We were gifted this strange cactus about 10 years ago and while it’s thrived sitting on our bay window plant shelf we don’t know what it is. It’s kind of pretty but kind of ugly at the same time. Oh well, at least it’s green and growing! Thanks for stopping by! – Chris

not quite 100

My unofficial thermometer maxed out at 98 this afternoon as the remainder of the island broke the low 100s (is there such a thing as the low 100s?).

Conditions around North Central and NE Florida at 4 this afternoon. Fernandina Beach was 101 with a dew point just below 70 degrees. That produced a heat index of 107 (feels like temperature). No sea breeze this afternoon to cool us down as the prevailing winds were generally westerly off of the hot interior of Florida.

These types of temperatures are not normal for this area especially this close to the Atlantic coast. Typically we’ll max out in the high 80s to low 90s with our ever-present high humidity. A cooling sea breeze will keep it pleasant at the beach and for a few miles inland. Of course, during a normal Summer afternoon, we can expect some pretty strong thunderstorms. Fun with Fuji’s K-28 “Construction Camera”

Here is another look at this unique and not often seen camera.

Chasing Classic Cameras with Chris

Here’s a camera you don’t see often – maybe never – Fuji Photo Film Japan’s Fuji K-28. A waterproof and dust/dirtproof 35mm compact camera. Designed for rugged use like on a jobsite or in the rain. All of the controls are sealed against the elements via tight fitting rubber gaskets and secure latching systems.

The camera gets its power from 2 AA LR6 alkaline manganese batteries. Here’s an interesting note from Fujifilm Japan:

Mamiya-Sekor Lens Case

Hi all! I have another nice lens case to pass along. This one is from 1956/7 and it was designed to fit the Mamiya-Sekor 180mm f4.5 TLR lens for the Mamiaflex. These cases are not easy to find this nice from this period.
