While searching through some older scans I was fortunate to find this image from around 1985. It’s a view of the first kitchen remodel I did in the first house we owned when we lived on Fleming Island, Florida. The house was built around 1976 and originally was as plain as could be.

It wasn’t a fancy kitchen but it was well organized and very functional. The part of the kitchen pictured here was originally part of a divided and weird living room with lots of wasted space. The cabinets were basic unfinished birch veneer boxes that I was able to customize to suit our needs. We decided against upper cabinets along this wall in favor of glass open shelving (which is popular today). Our kitchen even featured a full-sized sliding glass door! I learned quite a bit from remodeling that house and when we sold it in early 1988 it sold to the first people that saw it. Now thirty-five years later we’re wrapping up another kitchen remodel in our current home on Amelia Island where we’ve lived since 1991. Thanks for stopping by! – Chris
