It was bound to happen. One klunker out of a bunch of good ones isn’t bad. We think it isn’t so much a bad build as possibly improperly stored… maybe.
Another in the long line of plastic fantastic Fujifilm cameras from the late 1990s.
Part of the Discovery series of compact 35mm point and shoots from Fuji Photo Film. This one came to us still new in the box, unused but maybe stored in a too hot environment. Some of the plastic bag protecting the camera became stuck to the back film door (see below). This one is, using a nautical term, dead in the water. Despite a new battery, the camera won’t fire the flash and the shutter works intermittently or not at all. The power zoom works but beyond that, nothing else. Possibly a short in the circuitry caused by the hot storage (pure speculation).
Sticky residue on the film door from the factory plastic bag. So far it’s resisted all attempts at cleaning it off.
When the battery was first inserted for the date mode, this is the programmed date that popped up. We’re thinking it may be the build year. Why not?
Talking about the date mode battery, what a pain to change it! Number one, it’s not even mentioned in the owner’s manual for starters. It takes a CR2025 3V lithium button battery but it wasn’t mentioned. Take a peek at what it takes to get at it… ⇓
Remove 6 screws and the film pressure plate, the battery cover and then peel up 2 felt light seals!
That baby was buried and stuck down with the light seals!
Back together.
Anyway, it’s a good looking camera and may have been fun to use.
Oh and the remote control (below), no mention of that battery either.
Another CR2025 button battery.
We’ve had great results with our other Fujifilm Discovery series cameras in the past. No reason to believe the series is not worthy of a look. Having said that, this is a new camera that’s never been used and still failed – but that’s why there’s warranties.
Quick specs: Lens Fujinon 35-70mm electronic zoom, 5 elements in 5 groups. DX coded for ISO 100/400. Continuous shooting at 1 frame per second. Weight 235 grams with battery and data back.
Can we recommend the S700 Zoom Date? Well no. There are much better models out there from Fuji. Stick with the longer zoom models still built in Japan.

No it’s not a 110 film camera as the name might imply but one of the last in a long series of 35mm super compact cameras from Fuji.
This one debuted about late 2003 – not that long ago when you think about recent film cameras vs. emerging digital cameras.
As the name implies, it has a zoom lens (38-110mm) and can imprint the date on the film.
Autofocus, exposure, flash and red-eye reduction.
Electronic shutter from 1/2 to 1/500th second.
Nice bright viewfinder – large LCD with date/time imprint and super fast two position zoom buttons. The red power button is almost impossible to push with a normal fingertip. Too small for me.
Power zoom Fujinon lens 38-110mm (f 6.3 to 11.7).
The camera is one of the smallest in our collection of plastic fantastic Fujifilm compact 35s. It weighs in at only 190 grams without the CR123A lithium battery.
Automatic DX film ISO setting from ISO 50-3200. Automatic film loading and film advance and auto pre-wind system.
As we’ve stated before, these cameras are getting harder to find in still brand new condition (with all original factory issued stuff)… so, they are somewhat collectable and if you’re looking for a super compact film camera to take on your next outing, the Fujifilm line is a very good choice.

Our camera wish list is quite extensive – over the years you get to see a bunch of cameras and of course, if you’re an ardent photographer and camera collector, they’ll be some cameras you desire.
We have no reason to want this Fuji other than it’s just so cool!
First time we’ve seen the original box and a new unused FP-1.
The Fotorama (crazy cool name) is a rather large format instant film camera made by Fuji Photo Film Company. Released June 1987 –

The Fuji FP-1 Pro features a Fujinon 105mm, f/ 5.6 lens – 4 elements in 5 groups and a shutter that has B, 1 to 1/500 second. It uses FP-100 film and makes an image that is 89 x 118mm. The camera weighs 1,280g and sold for ¥ 69,800
The camera depicted here in this post is not ours. We’ve curated a group of images of beautiful cameras over the years. This nice set went for $1,000.00 – which in our humble opinion, was very fair given how few new in box cameras still exist.

Released in November 1986, the Fuji DL-150 entered into a hyper crowded marketplace filled with everything from cutting edge 35mm SLRs with capable autofocus and autoexposure modes to some of the most basic point and shoot cameras ever made.
We think this Fuji probably existed somewhere in the middle of the pack of simple AF compact cameras. We don’t have a handle on the price point of the DL-150 – the excellent build quality would suggest a steep list price.
Since Fuji makes film, this set came supplied with a free roll of Fujicolor. It was a great way for Fuji to kick the yellow box and introduce their new customers to the quality of Fuji film.
Focusing on the DL-150 is automatic (infrared, active type) with autofocus memory. The shutter is a programmed electronic type with speeds of 1/30 to 1/500. ISO (DX Coding)is from 100-1600.
We like the styling of the DL-150… typical 1980s design but in our eyes it still looks fresh. It feels like Fuji used a higher quality plastic and the fit and finish is excellent. This model appears to have been built in Japan.

The shutter release button is sweet – a soft touch oval that feels great under your fingertip.

Colorful retail box. The Fuji DL-7 has a similar design.
Billed as the “world’s simplest loading system”! Features autofocus, auto flash firing, motorized film advance and end of roll rewind and DX auto film setting. No way to turn on the flash and the flash fires to “assist” you in dim lighting indoors.
Takes 2 AA batteries and weighs in at only 255 grams (without film, batteries or strap).
We haven’t field tested it yet but it’s on that ever growing list!

From 1959, Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. follow-up to their widely popular Fujipet 120 film camera. The Pet 35 took advantage of the growing popularity of 35mm photography – plus it’s a great way to sell more film!
The Pet 35 was way more sophisticated than the Fujipet – but retained the funky charm and quirkiness of the original. Since the Pet 35 is not a common camera, we’ve presented a visual tour of our almost mint condition Pet 35.
Original set as found. We have the leather case too.
The lens is a Fujinar-K 3 element glass lens – 45mm with a maximum aperture of f/3.5 with closest focussing to 0.5 meters.
The lever to the right of the lens cocks the shutter and the left lever trips the Copal B leaf shutter.
The Copal shutter features speeds of B, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100 and 1/200 of a second.
In keeping with the funky design – two oversized knobs that left no doubt on how to operate them.
The body is dark gray on this Pet 35.
Outer ring is the focus adjustment, next is the shutter speed selector and finally the aperture settings.

Nicely detailed and finished.

The Pet 35 is far from being a ‘toy camera’ as its build quality is quite high. No foam or yarn light seals to fail – the metal film door fit tightly into the body to seal out light.

Pretty little Fujica DL-20 from 1983.
The world’s first 35mm drop-in loading camera! Simply load your Fujifilm cartridge into the opening on the bottom, close the back – and your Fujica will do the rest!
Features a Fujinon 38mm f/4 lens with built-in lens and viewfinder cover.
Released in March 1983 in Japan, it was also known as the ‘Auto Mate’.
Original list price in Japan was 30,000 JPY.
Shutter fires from 1/100 to 1/300 of a second.
Also released at the same time the more feature packed DL-100 (Auto Ace).
Solid little thing! Thick plastic everywhere and a bright red finish too!
Manually set ISO settings (100 & 400). 3 zone focusing. Auto exposure (EE).
Built-in electronic flash.
Push the film cartridge into the opening on the camera’s left side with about 5 cm of film extended – close the back and it auto loads the film.
Cute centerfold art… love the image on the far right!
Weighs in at 300 g. Fits nicely in your hand (although a bit small for me) and fits in a coat pocket with ease. A simple, compact 35mm point and shoot camera from Fuji Photo Film.
We don’t know if we’re going to shoot the Acros first or load up some bright Fujicolor. Soon we hope!
